What is Colocation (Colo)?

Colocation (colo) refers to the rental of space in a data center facility for the purpose of storing servers and other hardware.

It’s possible to either simply rent space in a rack, cabinet, cage, or room or to partner with a cloud provider to both rent space and use their IT team to manage services.

In either scenario, the colo should provide the building, cooling, power, bandwidth, and physical security while the customer brings the server and storage.
