What is Hybrid Cloud Computing?

Hybrid cloud computing is any combination of different types of Infrastructure-as-a-Service clouds, maintained by both internal and external providers. Those can include:

• Public clouds
• Private managed clouds (off-site)
• Internal clouds (on-premise)

What is a public cloud?

A public cloud is based on a model where a service provider makes resources, such as storage and bandwidth, available to the general public over the Internet. Public cloud services may be free or offered on a pay-per-usage model. They are easy and inexpensive set-up, are scalable to meet your needs, and have no wasted resources because you pay for what you use.

What is a managed private cloud?

Managed private clouds remove the burdens of hardware and data center operations (cooling, power, network links, storage and labor) from a company so they can better utilize IT resources. Managed private clouds combine the rapid scalability and self-service functionality of a Public Cloud, with the power and reliability of dedicated resources.

What is an internal cloud?

Internal clouds are a new trend within enterprises. As businesses begin seeing the opportunity to leverage resource pools and simplified provisioning to centralize computing power to better service distributed business units, they also realize the challenges of billing and SLAs required to achieve these goals. Businesses are typically utilizing internal clouds for missions critical or proprietary applications.
