Happy Holidays? Disaster Preparedness Turns That Catchphrase Into Reality

Everyone wants to have a happy and healthy holiday season, both professionally and otherwise. Regardless of your religious beliefs, the end of the calendar year is a time to get away from work a little bit, spend some time with your family and friends and enjoy yourself.

Of course, this can be difficult to do if you're worried about your workplace and its cloud data. If your organization is reliant upon either public or private cloud solutions for managing your data, it can be extremely difficult to trust those solutions at any time of year. What if a storm happens to knock out your data infrastructure overnight? How will you recover?

This is always a problem at any time of year, but it's especially bad during the holiday season. You can bet that if the date is December 20-something, you're going to have issues with absences around the office, both planned and not. What happens if a mishap with your company's cloud backup infrastructure comes along at exactly the wrong time? How will you put a plan into effect for disaster recovery?

These are very real problems, and they're difficult. Fortunately, Virtacore can help.

The strain of the holiday season
By no means is this problem limited to tech companies based in the cloud. It's a universal issues – absences from work are extremely common around Christmas, and the whole business world is aware.

"Absences from work are extremely common around Christmas, and the whole business world is aware."

The Society for Human Resource Management recently reported on the extent of the epidemic. The SHRM released a report, working in conjunction with Kronos Incorporated, that says nearly three quarters of U.S. employers expect their staff members to take unplanned absences directly before or after weekends or holidays this time of year. Karen Wessels, the researcher who led the Kronos survey, says it's important for companies to keep this issue under control.

"Given that unplanned absences typically cost organizations more in indirect costs than planned absences do, it is pertinent that organizations accurately track unplanned absences both to monitor costs and to counsel their employees on attendance policies when necessary," Wessels told SHRM.

Of course, for many companies, simply covering for an employee who's absent isn't a huge deal. The workload might get a little bit heavier, and tasks might get done a day or two late, but that's not the end of the world.

With cloud data, though? That day or two might be critical. That's why it's important to have a partner you can trust.

Cloud backup disaster can occur at any time.

The value of peace of mind
While numerous places of business shut down around the end of December, Virtacore isn't one of them. You might be on vacation when Christmas rolls around, but Virtacore is always on and always ready. Disaster preparedness is a constant state, because even if you're on vacation, your data isn't, and it needs to stay protected.

The value of this is immeasurable, and it boils down to three words – peace of mind. If you want to relax and enjoy that holiday dinner with your family this year, it helps to first ensure that your data is in the right hands.

YOUR Cloud. OUR Infrastructure.
