Cloud Benchmarking: The Pepsi Challenge

Michael Grant
Vice President, Sales

Virtacore recently took The Pepsi Challenge (Yes, I am referencing the 1980’s soda commercials!). Virtacore invited a third party cloud benchmarking company, Cedexis, to test our cloud network. I knew Virtacore had done a great job, as a team, building a strong datacenter presence in our Virginia datacenter by creating multi-gig redundancy with no single point of failure on a highly optimized backbone. I also knew our datacenter is located in the most connected infrastructure ring globally, which sees almost 70% of the world’s internet traffic. We support thousands of clients and their mission critical VM’s, including VMware itself, from our cloud. What I didn’t know was how the actual benchmark metrics would play out. Is Virtacore Coke, Pepsi, or simply store brand soda?

If you didn’t know already, Cedexis is a third party independent cloud benchmark organization that looks at certain metrics across different industries. The Cedexis test results are reported on a daily basis. As it turns out, Virtacore is among the top contenders when it comes to performance measured by Cedexis. We might not be as big as Amazon, Rackspace, Savvis and IBM but when our networks are measured against them, we are within a few milliseconds of the top global providers. Perhaps the most impressive stat is that we are consistently #1 when it comes to the error ratio of our network. Meaning that our network is truly a top performer, just like Coke or Pepsi.

I encourage our potential clients to look at the Cedexis link and see for yourself:

I always had the feeling that our VMware based cloud was one of the best in the business, having Cedexis tell us this is a big win for Virtacore. Virtacore may not have the name recognition of some of the bigger cloud players, but when you can get a quality service and performance at a fraction of the cost, why would you go anywhere else?

YOUR Cloud. OUR Infrastructure.
